On the importance of experience …

As I have assisted clients in my Wyoming County private practice over the last 13 years, I have benefited most from my vast experience in numerous areas of the law.

This was especially true when the oil and gas industry entered the region, changing the business opportunities in our county.

Forty two years of broad legal experience have helped better serve my clients and the community at large.

Although I sometimes need to research specific issues that arise, having general knowledge in numerous areas of the law has given me the ability to address legal issues more efficiently.

On the rewards of being an attorney …

It sounds cliché, but I really enjoy helping people. I like the challenges and complexities law provides. I always try to get along with the lawyers on the other side. I don’t make it combative. I have a job to do, and so do they.

On going to law school …

I graduated with an undergraduate degree in criminology, and I initially wanted to be a probation officer. I thought I could help change things. I then decided I could be more effective as an attorney. My mom suggested I go to law school. I was accepted at several schools. While I was waiting to hear from Temple, my first choice, I accepted a slot at Pepperdine University in California. I drove out to Pepperdine, got an apartment and went to classes for two days. My mother had the local police department find me to tell me that I had gotten accepted to Temple. This was on a Tuesday. I had to be there by the following Monday morning. I resigned from Pepperdine and left Wednesday morning. I drove straight through and got home to Factoryville on Friday afternoon. I began classes at Temple the following Monday.
